Karen Ainley

Karen is a former TV presenter and reporter with BBC Look East, and also presented documentaries for the BBC 2 Matter of Fact series. She started her journalism career on the Braintree & Witham Times, before moving to the Colchester Gazette as the Health Reporter. She spent four years as a radio reporter and newsreader with BBC Essex before moving into television. She is a co-founder of Mosaic and has been media training captains of industry for over 20 years. As a graduate in Publishing and Computer Studies, she loves all things techie, and has recently completed an MSc in Digital Marketing Communications. Karen also delivers the Chartered Institute of Marketing Digital Marketing Strategy course on behalf of the Academy for Marketing.

Kevin Bentley

Kevin spent more than 20 years with the BBC, the latter half as a TV reporter with BBC Look East and a parliamentary reporter and producer on the BBC’s East at Westminster programme. He has worked on Radios 1, 2 and 4 and was a sub editor on Ceefax. He has also worked for numerous local radio stations, including BBC Essex. He is a past National President of the Round Table organisation and has been passing on his media training and presentation skills for over a decade. Kevin is currently a Borough and County Councillor in Essex and is the Chair for the Local Government Association (LGA) Task and Finish Group for Brexit.

Jenny Grinter

Jenny has more than 20 years’ experience in senior PR and communications roles in higher education and with the police, and is passionate about good communications. She started out as a newspaper journalist on weekly, evening and morning titles in Essex, and loves meeting people and writing their story. She has expertise in PR strategy and campaign development, crisis management, media training, internal communications, print and electronic publications.

John Whyte-Venables

John is an expert in ‘mojo’ – mobile journalism – and specialises in teaching people how to create video on an iPhone and other mobile devices. John has many years’ of journalism experience in BBC radio, television and online news as a reporter, producer, specialist science and environment correspondent. He is a former Press Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge, and the author of four books about the media. In addition to delivering video and broadcast training with Mosaic, he also runs workshops for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Irene Kettle

Irene has been a journalist for more than 30 years. She was Editor-in-Chief of Essex County Newspapers, Editor of the four edition Evening Gazette and the Essex County Standard. During her time working in newspapers Irene also worked as a reporter, sub-editor and group news editor. She has experience of NHS communications having worked as Head of Internal and External Relations for a Primary Care Trust. Irene now works as a freelance media consultant and several times a year helps with the National Council For the Training of Journalists’ examinations.

Darius G Laws

Darius has over a decade’s experience in producing, scripting, directing and shooting everything from social media videos to traditional broadcast news, brand-funded video, live studio and location-based content. He has worked with leading consumer brands, government departments, local authorities and charities. He was nominated for ‘Short Film Director’ in the Royal Television Society Awards, is an award winner at the Edinburgh International TV Festival and has produced content which won PR Week Awards. Darius has interviewed and directed the likes of Boris Johnson, Gok Wan and Lewis Hamilton.

Gemma Rawlinson

Gemma oversees Mosaic’s media training department in her role as Operations Director and is responsible for managing all bookings. Her expertise lies in social media strategy and she is particularly proud of her three year social media campaign for the NHS which won a CIPR Gold Award for ‘Best Use of Social Media’. Gemma supports the training team by devising social media course content and undertaking the role of camera operator in broadcast skills training sessions.
